Our Heritage

Within these facilities, Astrotech has been witness to some of humanity's greatest achievements, expanding frontiers and creating a better future for the human race. Founded in 1981, Astrotech Space Operations LLC began as an aerospace consulting company. The company was subsequently purchased by Westinghouse and later, Northrop Grumman. In 1997, ASO was acquired by SPACEHAB, later renamed Astrotech Corporation. ASO became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin in August 2014, reporting to Lockheed Martin's Space Systems business.
